Movie: Beowulf

This is actually the second time I'm writing this post since blogger didn't work when I sent the first one and the post got lost. Well, here I go...again.

This movie just reminded me of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. When I first saw Angelina Jolie's character from the trailer of Beowulf, I thought it was really Angelina Jolie. Of course, the character of Beowulf gave it away since it was showing hints an animation but a damn good one since it looked so realistic. In fact, I felt that Beowulf's right hand man, Wiglaf was looked more realistic compared to Beowulf which is kind of weird since Beowulf is the main character.

Anyway, the story was okay. It wasn't bad but it was somewhat overshadowed by the awesome animations which distracted me so many times. I was very impressed with the facial expressions and movements during speech that was pretty realistic. The fight scenes were good too. The sexual innuendos and somewhat gruesome violence in this movie makes me wonder why is this a rated U movie since this isn't a movie I would want a 8 year old to watch.

The movie is an entertaining movie that is a must watch for fans of this kind of animation.

Why do I even bother...

Why do I even bother buying original movies or dramas? The other day, I bought this original JDorama DVD(at least I think it is since I bought it from Popular) that I've been searching for high and low for the version with English subtitles. The versions I saw before had only Malay and Mandarin subtitles. I don't know how to read mandarin and I don't like to watch my Jdorama/anime with Malay subtitles. I think I've had enough trauma with the lousy dubbing of animes that I watched since I was young. So anyway, I finally found this drama with English subtitles and purchased it immediately. When I went home and popped in the DVD, should I say that I'm suprised to find that the translations looked as though it was done by a dumb retard? The English grammar was what I would like to call "Gone Case". It was rubbish and looked as though there was no quality control whatsoever. With the "lah" and "lor" at the last of the sentences, this kind of makes me think that the English subtitles were done by a Malaysian.

This isn't the first time I'm disappointed with original VCD/DVDs. When I bought Signs, the audio was so damn lousy, I could hardly hear the conversation with all the loud background. This isn't the first time the translations gone to the drains with original DVDs 'cause I watch Samurai Deeper Kyo with gibberish for subtitles. I just didn't understand what the fuck were they talking about. When the character A says the name of character B, the subtitles showed that it was the name of character C...WTF!?!?! How can you get such a simple thing wrong?!?!

This is just what frustrates me, I kind of support buying original which was why I didn't buy the cheaper pirated version but I get lousy subtitles or low quality audio which I would expect from a pirated DVD and not an original DVD. No wonder the pirated DVD industry is still booming.

Games: Grow Island

I found the "new" (new cos I just found out about it) addition to the Grow series, Grow Island by EYEMAZE. I just love this Grow series for their cuteness, creativity and it's ability to get me hooked on it for hours. It's just so addictive!!! LOL!

I've already finished a few of the Grow series including Grow Ornament in the past and it was very fun trying to figure out the right order.

This Grow Island however is very interesting as there are two potential endings, the normal ending and a UFO version ending. I must admit that after trying several combinations over and over again, I just got frusfrated for maxxing only 7 out of 8 items that I just decided to search for the solution on the web (which is also how I got to find out about the alternate ending.). :P I found it hard to accept the solution was because of the difference between it and my solution that maxxes 7 out of 8 BUT since it did prove to be the proper way to solve the game, it works for me. :D So do give it a try and don't quit easily unless you're maxxing out only 7 out of 8 over and over again until you just had to search for the solution before you go insane. :P

Grow Island.

KTM X-Bow

Just check the KTM X-Bow. When I first saw the pictures of this car, my attention was drawn to it's design and colour. I just had to look at it.

"The X-Bow concept is the first car ever built by KTM, Europe’s second-largest motorcycle maker. The X-Bow’s motorcycle roots are evident in its barebones open construction, which features a carbon-fiber chassis developed by race car builder Dallara. Design house Kiska developed the shape, which is more of an open-wheeled Formula car than a conventional roadster. As such, it does away with many conventional automotive amenities like a sound system and air conditioning.

According to the Austrian cycle maker, the X-Bow allows it to “offer all those who do not have a motorcycle license a driving experience that is typical for the brand.”

KTM teamed up with Audi to develop the 2.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged 4-cylinder engine which produces 220 bhp. A high-output version of 300 bhp is contemplated. The X-Bow is also equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox, while a Dual Shift Gate (DSG) sequential-shift gearbox that features clutchless operation may be offered later as an option.

Weighing just 1500 lb., the X-Bow is expected to be blindingly fast. The factory estimates 0-60 mph acceleration of less than 4 seconds. This light weight allows KTM to dispense with such features as power steering; the lack of a windshield means no wipers and the elemental nature of the vehicle itself eliminates the need for electronic driving aids.

Designed as a high-performance piece of sporting equipment, the X-Bow has no doors and features seats fitted with 4-point harnesses—the use of these belts and the crash performance of the carbon-fiber chassis mean that airbags aren’t necessary. In keeping with the extreme nature of the X-Bow, KTM has developed suits and helmets to be used by the vehicle’s two occupants. The first cars are expected to go on sale in Europe late this year and a KTM-sponsored race series for the X-Bow is planned for 2008."
